A Short History of the Land

The land that is now home to The Forest Edge Counseling and Retreats is also home to a variety of wildlife including black bears, mountain lions, lynx, foxes, mule deer, coyotes, rodents, reptiles and amphibians, owls, and a plethora of other birds. The forest includes ponderosa pines, firs, aspen, scrub maple, cottonwoods, poplar, juniper, and a variety of native grasses. A small creek trickles through, beginning just a few miles west and meandering its way through north Boulder to Boulder Creek.

In 2010, over half of the property was burned in the devastating Fourmile Fire which burned an area of 6,000 acres in the foothills west of Boulder, CO. Among the destruction was the family home on the property.

In the 1970s and β€˜80s, a community inhabited the land and called it Lingerbrook. Stories are told of sprawling extension chords reaching the many tents throughout the property and lush vegetable gardens.

Prior to Lingerbrook, miners exploited the land in search for gold and other ores. Mining pits and artifacts remain on the land many decades later. Roughly 4 miles away sits the historic town of Gold Hill whose name implies the origins of it’s settlement.

Prior to white settlers, people of the Arapaho Nation resided in the area with Cheyenne, Ute, Comanche, and Sioux passing through (bouldercolorado.gov).
